People love to reduce Pattaya to a single street. After more than a decade living here, I can tell you that's like judging Bangkok by one night market — you'd miss almost everything that makes the place worth staying for.

So here is the list I wish someone had handed me when I arrived: over 200 things to do and places to go across Pattaya City, Naklua, Jomtien, Na Jomtien, Mabprachan and neighbouring Sattahip. It's the same coast my clients discover once they stop treating Pattaya as a weekend and start treating it as a home. I've kept to established places and added honest notes where they help — but opening days, prices and rules change, so check ahead for anything you're travelling specifically to see.

The coast is the whole point, and it's far more varied than the postcard suggests — from the buzz of Pattaya Beach to near-empty sand down in Sattahip.

My tip: Jomtien is generally quieter than central Pattaya, and Koh Larn is the easiest island escape — the ferry from Bali Hai Pier takes about 45 minutes. Go on a weekday if you can; weekends fill up. If you want the quiet, real-Thailand coast, keep driving south to Bang Saray and the Sattahip beaches. Pattaya Bay is set up for just about anything that floats, and the Tourism Authority lists swimming, sailing, snorkelling, windsurfing and water-skiing among its established activities.

My tip, and please take this one seriously: only use established, insured operators, and agree the full price before you accept any motorised water activity — jet-skis in particular. It's the single most common way visitors get stung here. A reputable operator with a real shopfront is worth the extra few baht.

My tip: The Sanctuary of Truth is Pattaya's signature sight — an enormous, entirely hand-carved wooden temple right on the water, and it's still being carved, which is part of the magic. Go in the morning light. Pair it with the Khao Phra Tamnak viewpoint for the classic bay panorama.

The green side of the Eastern Seaboard is the part most weekenders never see — and the part my clients fall for.

My honest note on animals: choose observation- and conservation-focused places, and skip anything offering elephant riding, animal tricks or hands-on contact that compromises welfare. Nong Nooch's gardens alone are worth the trip. And Lake Mabprachan — where I ride most weekends — is the green heart of East Pattaya.

Pattaya does water parks properly — these are full-day, world-class outings.

My tip: the Siam Country Club courses are the marquee names, but book tee times ahead in high season (November–February). For buyers, note how many of these cluster around East Pattaya and Mabprachan — it's a big part of why the villa market out there holds its value.

My tip: Thepprasit Night Market (weekends) is the big one for street food and browsing; Naklua's Lan Pho market is where to go for proper fresh seafood. The floating market is touristy but genuinely photogenic.

The point of a list like this

Count them up and you're well past 200 — and I've left plenty out. That's the thing people miss about Pattaya: the beaches and the bar street are the smallest part of what's here. There's world-class golf, some of Asia's best water parks, quiet Sattahip coves, championship food, green lakeside country and a dozen islands, all inside half an hour of each other.

It's also, not coincidentally, exactly why people who come for a week end up looking for somewhere to live. When your weekends can look like any of this list, a condo by Jomtien beach or a pool villa out by Mabprachan starts to make a lot of sense.
